DCtoBC x The Great Progression - "Don't Wuwwy: Kendrick Lamar Live in DC!"

My brothers DC toBC and The Gee Pee (are you with me) have Top Dawg Entertainment recording artist KENDRICK LAMAR in DC at the 9:30 Club, making it his first-ever public show in the nation’s capital. The Compton standout is expected to sell out the 1200 capacity venue thanks to his loyal following in the DC metropolitan area. Kendrick will be joined on stage by fellow label mate SCHOOLBOY Q as he cycles through his hits spanning from his early career to his most recent project, the critically acclaimed #Section80. Also sharing the spotlight for the evening are buzzing DMV natives PHIL ADE and PHIL DA PHUTURE, both signees of Grammy nominated crooner Raheem DeVaughn’s 368 Music Group, as well as Houston’s own ASHTON TRAVIS, a lyrical mastermind recently crowned winner of the Hip-Hop Unplugged Series, hosted by Def Jam’s Lenny Santiago and MTV’s Sway. You never know who else may pop up, either. There are still a few tickets yet to this show. When I say a few, I mean like if you refresh your page they may be gone. So make sure you get one while you can.

Below is a compilation of music titled "Hello World" to introduce you to all five of the artists performing tomorrow done by DC to BC. Click on the cover to download the mix.

Black Jesus aka The Lords Prayer

I need the athletic departments of schools in the MEAC, CIAA, SWAC, and SIAC to get back on their job. It can't be that grades are the issue why the talent will not come or get in. I put the blame on each school, starting with the administration over the years and it goes all the way down to the alumni across the globe. We have to do a much better job representing our universities and colleges to the youth. Having great winning programs equals more dollars for the schools, their current and future students, and their surrounding communities.

Sunday Matinee: Blitz The Ambassador – Native Sun [Short Film]

For those who don't know, Blitz also has a album out with the same name. Make sure you grab it HERE (if you still like vinyl like myself go HERE) after you watch this.

[Preview] Hole In the Head: A Life Revealed

Growing up in one of the most historic towns for African Americans in this country, Vertus Hardiman hid a shocking secret under a wig and beanie for over 80 years. He was experimented on at age of 5 by a county hospital in Indiana during 1927. Vertus was one of ten children, all experimented on with radiation that day. This film tells his amazing story of strength, courage, and perseverance.

Tight Jeans: The Short Film [Video]

Its always great to see YEBIES across the global creating and producing amazing products that get embraced not by our community but by those who don't always understand our story. This short film by Destiny Ekaragha of the UK is a great example of this. Winner of The London Rushes Soho Film Festival Awards for Best Newcomer in 2009, Tight Jeans was Ekaragha's debut film.

TIGHT JEANS is a light comedy that touches on modern attitudes towards other cultures. It explores the ignorance we tend to have of one another, sometimes without even realising it.
Three black teenagers are becoming frustrated while waiting for their friend. A young white lad walks past wearing super tight jeans. The boys look on until one of them asks the pivotal question, "How can a man wear jeans that tight?" This sparks a hilarious debate about race and culture.

Accolades:

  • Selected and granted funding as one of the 6 short films to represent Lewisham, Southwark & Lambeth Film and Arts Councils in association with Film London.
  • Premiered at and was voted Best Short Film at the Times BFI 52nd London Film Festival by the Observer newspaper.
  • Won Best Newcomer Award at The London Rushes Soho Film Festival 2009,
  • Runner up status at the Buffalo San Black and Asian Film Festival 2008
  • Official Selection at The Pan African Film Festival 2009 in Los Angeles,
  • Africa in the Picture Film Festival in Amsterdam
  • The Athens 15th International Film Festival.
  • In March 2009 TIGHT JEANS was chosen as the download film of the month by The BFI for their members.

Go grab Pharoahe's new project W.A.R.(We Are Renegades) if you haven't already bought it. I'm glad a video was made for this track. This is very smooth for rides in the whip or chilling in the park this summer.

Phil Ade - #PhilAdeFriday [Mixtape]

My apologies for the late post Phil, this updating thing gets harder each day I tell you. I personally know how hard Phil was working on this project while A Different World got pushed back. Matter of fact I have a cameo in the video for the first track on here. This #PhilAdeFriday Mixtape contains all of Phil's recent Friday freestyles/tracks along with a few bonus jamss. This tape is hosted by my homie from the 1st floor at Dream/Love Night Club days, DJ Money. 368 has done it again, What Up Dre... Be on the lookout for A Different World from Phil this summer.

New Music: Hil Holla Ft G.O.D Jewels- Cruisin'

Outside Providence is on its way. Seriously, that's what Hil keeps telling me. This song is about Hil's first car and how much he enjoyed riding around in it. This was back during the time where $5 in the tank would get you through the weekend. We all have first car stories and here's one from Rhode Islannd's own Hil Holla.
