Back when then-Senator Obama was waging an uphill battle for Pennsylvania’s Democrats in the party presidential primaries there, Dan Rooney, owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers lined up Obama. The significance? Rooney is a life-long Republican.

Steele Named RNC Chair...

Members of the Republican National Committee elected their first-ever African-American party chief on Friday, choosing former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele to chair the organization after six rounds of tumultuous balloting.
I'll leave my personal opinions out of this post, but I'll just ask one thing; does the GOP really gets it????

Happy Birthday Oprah...

Happy 55th birthday. She has did it the YEB way. She got inside of the system and changed it. She made them have to accept her. Kat Williams said it the best, "You should be able to kill someone by saying 9 billion". But seriously she has done it all for all mankind. Who cares if she doesn't like hip-hop, a lot of black people don't. Thanks for the inspiration Ms. Winfrey...

WRTN.... Heven Cent....

They said he could pass like Magic, score like Mike, and had heart like Bird. He was the 1 in more then one way. His name was Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway. From being the national player of the year as a high school senior to being named a two time college All American, Hardaway had the complete package.

Do you really remember how good Penny was????? He almost made you forget about Mike. Ok well not totally but you were still ok with the direction of the league. His shoe game was also classic. Besides Jordan, Penny's shoes are probably the most wanted retros of any player.

And how can you forget his sidekick Lil Penny. He had the best shoe commercials ever. Mars Blackmon was cool but Lil Penny was the man. Penny along with The Fab Five helped bring in the Hip-Hop ERA of the NBA.

Like many great players before him, Penny’s career walked through an all too familiar path. His body just couldn’t keep up with his incredible god given abilities. After his break-up with Shaq and a couple of knee surgeries, Penny never returned to himself. Far to many basketball fans were robbed of seeing another great player like Penny fail to reach his prime due to health issues. Another what if story of what could have been....

Today In Black History...

On this date in 1938 Jack and Jill of America was founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from a meeting of 20 mothers by the leadership of Marion Stubbs Thomas with the idea of bringing together children in a social and cultural environment. It grew out of the community work of upper-class African American women, who wanted their children to have cultural opportunities, develop leadership skills, and form social networks even in a segregated society. Today mothers have to be invited into the group, much like memberships in country clubs. Members are usually professional women who are doctors, lawyers, business women, or are married to well-off individuals. Children who graduate out of the program are granted legacy status and automatically join when they have children of their own.

I have my own personal views on the current state of this organization and many of their members but I'll save that for another post.

On this date in 1962 the great Jackie Robinson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

On this date in 1993 Thurgood Marshall the first black Supreme Court Justice died at the age of 84. Marshall will always be known for his work on the case Brown v. Board of Education which said there was no such thing as separate but equal in education. This case would go on to end segregation in schools.

Reliving The 81 By KB8...

Somethings Will Never Change...

Old white men talking about young black men and their music and political views. They will never get it with their little close minds. It's funny how these same stations and people always find a way to use small clips to get their backwards points across about hip-hop and young black America. At the end of the day white America is still the number one consumer of black music.

Happy Founders Day...

Delta Sigma Theta was founded on January 13, 1913, at Howard University by twenty-two young women. Today, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is the largest African-American Greek-lettered sorority in the world.

Delta Girl
The Delta girl is one who has been given the opportunity of education and broad development: she is one who has enjoyed the privileges of culture and selected environment.
It is pleasing to a heartfelt depth to see her not as self centered, not desirous of selfish power, not wanting the plaudits of people, not wanting glory- but with a purpose which directs her activities and all that she may control toward lifting somebody else.

Moden Day Plantation...

Saigon has a new song about his life on his former label Atlantic Reords. Pretty deep song and message behind it...

Via OS :
Here goes Saigon on the track:

If anybody knows about the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, that’s pretty much how Africans got to America. When they brought us on those ships that’s what it was called and it’s ironic that I ended up on Atlantic Records because they didn’t’ want to help me to help my people. I used to try to go up to the Black employees and try to make my case to them to them. They’d tell me they basically needed a sex songs and I’d tell them, “Dog, you got a daughter! Do you really want a song about me laying pipe? You want a song with me giving a bitch the business? How would you feel if your daughter was singing along?” The sad thing is they’d look at me with a jackass face.

Happy Birthday 50th Birthday Motown...

Founded by Berry Gordy as Tamla Records on January 12, 1959, the company was incorporated as Motown Record Corporation in 1960. The name derived from the words motor and town, is also a nickname for Detroit. Motown is easily the most important and influential black label of all time. It was the first record label owned by an African American to primarily feature African-American artists. They not only did a lot for music in America, they also help the racial integration of that time. They had that great "Motown Sound" that was undeniably good which made their music able to crossover to all races all over the word.

Obama And His Blackberry...

President Barack Obama has vowed to hang on to his Blackberry despite concerns his messages could be hacked. Obama said he is struggling to keep the Blackberry so he can maintain contact with the outside world. Obama went on to say "keeping in touch by email was a way of escaping the trappings of power and staying in touch with the electorate."

I know many people out there that just can't live without their blackberrys either. We feel your pain sir. A cell phone is like a extend part of your body these days, so I could only imagine what his cell phone and its contents must be like.

I guess that's why they call it the "crackberry"...lol
