On this date in 1949 Gil Scott Heron was born in Chicago, Illinois. Heron, a Lincoln University alum, is one of my favorite poets and musicians. You can see the influence he had on hip-hop with is poetic and musical styles. Last year Gil released his first new album in 16 years, entitled I'm New Here.
In a time where life is often guided by misconception and tainted love its hard to truly find someone who is there for you for all the right reasons. No matter how you deliver your heart to a person, you still have to wait for them to open it up. I came up with this concept to inspire honesty. I've learned through life, communication is everything when you're in a relationship. Take these visuals as an example of how something could be if there is no truth between two parties. She/He is your prototype and could be so much more if you allow it. Never Take The Love Of Your Believer For Granted. Much Thanks to Andre 3000
DJ Spicoli and I put together jazz and jazz influenced songs for a mix called #CottonClubEssentials For The #UptownRenaissance. This mix has a little bit of everything on it from many genres. Make sure you download this mix and blast it around the house or in the car as you get ready for this saturday's event. Once again to get tickets for the occasion go HERE.
This new video by Saadiq is for the single "Radio" which is a song from Raphael's upcoming studio album and will be released on iTunes on January 11. The new album celebrates the classic sounds of 60's and 70's soul with a futuristic twist. More details about this album can be found here.
Like the flyer says this is an ALL James Brown affair from 5-10pm. If you are in the DMV area make sure you stop by for great music at one of the city's newest music only venues. My homie Jerome Baker 3rd will be one of the DJs along with Harry Hotter, Johnny Blaze, and James Nasty. U Street Music Hall is located at 1115A U Street NW Washington, DC 20009.
Here is a playlist of the samples Kanye used for his latest masterpiece My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. I still buy cds to this date to find out what songs were sampled on each track. Kanye is one of if not the best at the art of sampling.
Boombox Music is for all you folks that love good music. This will be a great boost for your itunes and ipod. This mixtape is more about the music and is less about the artist who created it. There are tracks on here you may have heard of but probably haven’t blasted yet. Its a mix of new and newer jams from signed and unsigned artist. I hope these tracks open you up to various artist that you may have seen on other sites but never gave a chance. This mix includes music from J. Cole, Theo Martins, Mike Lights, QuESt, XO, Cee-Lo Green, Jay Electronica among others. I would give you the track list, but the thrill of suspense and the unknown is a lot better. Once you go ahead and download this mix, let me know what you think. If you know any of the artists that are on this joint, pass them the tape as well.
Hello world, I’m still alive and breathing. A good friend of mines told me just because I’m re-launching doesn’t mean I CANT still keep my people informed and in the loop, so I'm back with some updates. This YEBies movement is definitely in motion and there are very nice things in store for you guys from me (@yebiesupdates), so follow that account to stay in the loop. Oh yeah you can get at me personally (@YEBies) as well if you just want to chop it up from time to time. If you holla at me, I will holla back. Following one or both accounts is the easiest way to stay up to date with the movement and how we are progressing. I appreciate all of you who still come to the site and look at the work that been done thus far. For those who are new here, this is the perfect time to go back through the blog and read, listen, and watch the older stuff to catch up. I can’t give you a solid launch date at the moment, because it’s bigger than me and I want to do this right for yall. Different parts are in different stages but the overall vision is becoming clearer every day that passes. So in the meantime as this revolution develops, get the word out to your fellow YEBies so that they may be ready for the evolution that’s about to take place. Oh yeah add on us on FACEBOOK as well. The Fan page is now created and up and running.
So while I was away Erykah Badu released the video to "Window Seat", my favorite R&B song right now. There is so much being said in this video with very few props or actors. I hope people can see what she is really trying to say and trying to portray with this video. It could be very easy to get caught up in the fact that she's naked, and lose the point behind and it and the part it played in relaying her message.
Oh yeah the pharse that comes out of her head after she got shot was "Group Think", something she has been talking about for a while via twitter.
Here are the visuals for Fever off of RaheemDeVaughn's Mr February Mixtape. These two DMV artist always seem to put out good music when they collaborate.
I can't wait to hear more of Late Nights & Early Mornings now that we know its set to release sometime this year. Marsha is back with a vengeance in 2010.
