YEBies Presents: A Night At The Cotton Club 2

First off, sorry for the lack of updates. The transition to a new site is a whole lot harder than I ever thought it would be. Thanks for bearing with me.

Ok back to reason of this post.  It's Back!!!!!! This February 11th, we will be having our 2nd annual black history month event. This year's affair will take place at Zeba Bar in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Northwest, Washington DC. Staying true to what we do here at YEBies, we honor our past with this night that brings the different scenes of DC together to party, socialize, and network. There will be live performances from the singer/song writer Camari Drew and an eclectic mix of music from DJ Spicoli on the 1s and 2s. There will be several raffles going on as we also try to raise money for Louder Than Words Foundation. Last year we had a great turnout and were able to raise enough money to support several scholarships.

Click the flyer below for the event link

DCtoBC x The Great Progression - "Don't Wuwwy: Kendrick Lamar Live in DC!"

My brothers DC toBC and The Gee Pee (are you with me) have Top Dawg Entertainment recording artist KENDRICK LAMAR in DC at the 9:30 Club, making it his first-ever public show in the nation’s capital. The Compton standout is expected to sell out the 1200 capacity venue thanks to his loyal following in the DC metropolitan area. Kendrick will be joined on stage by fellow label mate SCHOOLBOY Q as he cycles through his hits spanning from his early career to his most recent project, the critically acclaimed #Section80. Also sharing the spotlight for the evening are buzzing DMV natives PHIL ADE and PHIL DA PHUTURE, both signees of Grammy nominated crooner Raheem DeVaughn’s 368 Music Group, as well as Houston’s own ASHTON TRAVIS, a lyrical mastermind recently crowned winner of the Hip-Hop Unplugged Series, hosted by Def Jam’s Lenny Santiago and MTV’s Sway. You never know who else may pop up, either. There are still a few tickets yet to this show. When I say a few, I mean like if you refresh your page they may be gone. So make sure you get one while you can.

Below is a compilation of music titled "Hello World" to introduce you to all five of the artists performing tomorrow done by DC to BC. Click on the cover to download the mix.

Phil Ade - Spazzin' [Video]

I know this video came out over a week ago but I have been so busy with this month's event that I didn't even get to post it when it first dropped. For those who missed it, here the video for a new track by Phil Ade as he continues to drop new heat each friday as part of #PHILADEFRIDAY. Shout out to Phil, Dre, and the rest of 368 for always showing love.

P.S. If you watch close enough you'll notice my man Modi and I in the back smashing some chicken and fries with mambo sauce.

[Video] Conversations with "YEBies" By: Boundless Dreams TV

No this is not a post of an interview of me, but two interviews of YEBies who are currently on the come up and are doing their own independent things receptively. Modi of DCtoBC/The GeePee and Jabari Johnson of IamJabari/Jabari Presents, were interviewed in New York by the homie Jack Sommer for his great site Imagination Detonation. Jack did a nice job with both interviews and got some great information from of these guys. 17 year old Jack Sommer is also defiantly someone to keep an eye out for as he continues to build his blog and brand through his different interview series.

Memorial Day Weekend 2010 Recap By: Jabari

I had the great pleasure to meet Jabari again this past weekend after first formally meeting him at The Talented event weeks ago. We happened to be at a couple of the same spots and got a chance to see some great thing manifest right here in DC. I dont think a 1 min video can really some up the type of weekend I had but Jabari's is the closest I can get until I get blessed with some footage from the homie Nasser. I don't like to brag or boast but I have some great friends and associates that are and will be doing big things for years to come. This weekend showed me that there are YEBIES all over DC that are trying to leave their mark out here just like me. This short video from Jabari exemplifies exactly what I mean by that statement. There are way too many folks to shout out in the video but I'll toss out a couple of Twitter names and yall can follow some of these eclectic folks; @alice_wonder, @Philade301, @DCtoBC, @Imjustmarcel, @jeffspicoli202, @jamalamode, @ladyswoosh, @NasVegas @kingfuckncarter .... This list could on for a while but follow these folks and let them know @Y_E_B and @Yebies told you so.

Oh yeah be on the lookout for IAMJABARI.com , Thegeepee.com, and last but not least YEBies.com which are all coming soon...

Phil Ade – Hollywood (Remix) (feat. Raekwon, Wale, Tabi Bonney & Raheem DeVaughn)

I know I said I was slowing down with post, especially music ones until the new site was done but I had bless the masses with what we are getting here on a regular in the DMV. The original to this track was my favorite off of Phil Ade's "Starting on JV" mixtape. The video was so DC and made me a even bigger fan when i saw it. I have had the privilege to see him perform it live on numerous occasions and it still never gets old. If you don't have Starting on JV get that while you are here and also be on the look out for his next project "The Letterman" with Don Cannon set to drop sometime in June. Big ups to Modi on the picture from Hustlepalooza.

Christian Rich - "Hello Virgin" [VIDEO]

This is the latest video from the Chi-town based group Christian Rich. "Hello Virgin" is the first single from the duo's upcoming mixtape "The Decadence," hosted by Clinton Sparks and Mick Boogie. The mixtape should be out on May 31, 2010. I have had chance to hear them do this song live here in DC a couple weeks ago and I left the show very impressed.  Special shout to my brother Modi on getting picked up to do some major damage for the group. Oh yeah THE GEE PEE is coming....

Happy 28th Lupe...

On this date in 1982 Fiasco was born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco in Chicago, Illinois. In some many ways I think Lupe embodies the current state of Black America. From his first major single, to his latest mixtape, Lupe has tried to stay true to self and community while still making great music. He teaches with each verse without being preachy and paints pictures with words more vivid then the Mona Lisa. He has been able to create verbal movies for us to imagine in your mind as listen to each new song. Each time I hear Lupe might retire I get upset because I know its not him but the industry that makes him feel that way. Like so many others I am patiently waiting the release of his next album "Lasers" which is suppose to be out by the summer. Until then I'll keep rocking out to the gems he has created thus far. So I'll end this post like he ends each show, "Peace, and much love to ya".

Here's some footage of Lupe @ Boston College last year with the homies Modi, Hil, and Theo.

Revenge Of The N.E.R.D...

My first memories of Pharrell was in high school when he did the tracks for Nore. Then came "I Just Want To Love You" by Jay-Z and I was hooked to his sound. Pharrell has made it cool to be a nerd, stake board, listen to other genres besides rap or R&B, wear bright color clothes and shoes, all the while making some of the greatest and most classic music of our time. He was worked with artist from Jay-Z to Justin Timberlake, creating a perfect mesh between his unique sound and style with the artists own talents. My homie Modi at DCtoBC loves this guy like I love Jay-Z, Magic Johnson, and cornbread. If you know me, then you know thats a whole lot of loving. So I thought it would be only right if I let him finish off this post.

Modi
ha. thank you sir. i do love skateboard p. he can do no wrong in my book. plus, he has some sort of magical fountain of youth, because he doesn't age. i heard he's still 23, but that's just word on the street. skateboard is a trendsetter like dan said. i mean, when was skateboarding cool for black people? not until pharrell co-signed it as acceptable and encouraged. and let's not forget his work with N*E*R*D, either. he goes hard and gets millions of bucks for beats for madonna, britney, jay-z, TI, etc., but he is on his indie stuff too. a black rock star whose official, unlike the shop boyz. it's about the music to him, the dollars are really nothing in the long run. when he retires, it'll probably be the saddest day in music.
