DC's UPTown Renaissance
There’s a deeper meaning to Saturday night’s festivities. For those that don’t know, black people used to only be workers at the Cotton Club in Harlem. We either served or were the entertainment at the original club. Even the name of “The Cotton Club” was to represent the people who once owned cotton fields. The best in black entertainment at that time played there on a regular basis. This Saturday is a modern interpretation of The Cotton Club where the grand kids of ex patrons and ex workers now party together under one sound and rhythm. This event is part of this whole “UPTown Renaissance” that has been taking off since 08’. Along with several other movements here in the nation’s capitol, our goal is to truly bring the city together. We are all more alike than we are different, but we’ll never know it unless we interact. So when you support YEBies you’re not just supporting this movement, but you are supporting all of us who are trying to bring the diversity of DC together. Most importantly you are supporting yourself. The things we say or we put together are you. As you build the individual, the community will also grow.
Thanks for taking some of your time to read this and for your continual support. You never know what can come to you on a train ride to VA.

YEBies Presents: A Night At The Cotton Club 2
First off, sorry for the lack of updates. The transition to a new site is a whole lot harder than I ever thought it would be. Thanks for bearing with me.
Ok back to reason of this post. It's Back!!!!!! This February 11th, we will be having our 2nd annual black history month event. This year's affair will take place at Zeba Bar in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Northwest, Washington DC. Staying true to what we do here at YEBies, we honor our past with this night that brings the different scenes of DC together to party, socialize, and network. There will be live performances from the singer/song writer Camari Drew and an eclectic mix of music from DJ Spicoli on the 1s and 2s. There will be several raffles going on as we also try to raise money for Louder Than Words Foundation. Last year we had a great turnout and were able to raise enough money to support several scholarships.

"Handkerchiefs, Heels, & Hangovers... A Night At The Cotton Club"
This February 19th, YEBies will have its inaugural Black History Month semiformal affair at The 201 Lounge in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, DC. As we get ready to re-launch the new site, this night of fun and camaraderie is in memory of the 1920's renaissance and the culture and style it cultivated and left us with. We felt inspired by the great events of the past held at the legendary Cotton Club, Savoy Ballroom, and venues alike from Harlem, New York to Washington DC to create this special occasion. We want people to come out ready to dance, network, drink, socialize, and most importantly have fun. Like our previous events, a portion of the proceeds will go to a charitable cause. For this event, a portion of the funds will go towards a teacher's scholarship at the Cape Mount Association; helping to pay tuition for future teachers in Liberia, West Africa. This will definitely be a night to remember as we take a trip back in time. The Section 8 Band will provide live music throughout the night and deejay D-Nice's renowned protégé, DJ Spicoli of DCtoBC will be on the turntables. The dress code for this event is 1920's /semiformal. The dress code will be enforced in other to create the ultimate experience. I highly recommend buying tickets in advance if you have intentions on attending.
